Jesus first

As a church, we seek to make Jesus our greatest treasure. The Jesus-first life is not something disciples manufacture through sheer willpower. It’s our response to His divine rescue mission!

Making Jesus our greatest treasure

As a church body, we are convinced that Jesus Christ is who He says He is, that God’s promises are true, and that His Kingdom is eternal. This our why—why we exist as a church and why we align all aspects of our lives with the Truth only found in Jesus Christ.

The Jesus-First life begins with the supremacy, sufficiency, and authority of Christ. Jesus is above all, before all, and over all. In Him, we have everything we need. Jesus is our life, our treasure, and our King.

We live out this Jesus-First life by faith.

We place our faith in the Son of God, Who loved us and gave Himself for us, declaring that He loved us first, even while we were dead and powerless in our sins!

We live in the truth that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead by the immeasurable greatness of God’s power, which fills us with a living hope.

We joyfully declare that Jesus Christ is the King of kings, and therefore, we seek first His Kingdom and righteousness.

Crucified in love

Raised in power

Reigning as King

The Jesus-First life works by love

We believe that hope empowers our faith, which in turn produces love. Therefore, we define our lives, relationships, culture, and mission by how faithfully we love.

We seek His voice

As we listen to His voice, His Word cultivates a culture within the CSCC of reverence, awe, and surrender, empowering us to obey Him in faith and love, to live by His Truth, and to hold fast to His teachings.

Test every spirit, teaching, and emotion against the Word of God, the Bible, to ensure that we are not deceived.

Obey God and His Word with humility and faith.

Know His voice: the source of ALL love, truth, and life, our mission, and the authority of the Colorado Springs Christian Church.

We declare His Gospel

As ambassadors of Christ our King, we are compelled by His love to declare the Gospel that Jesus was crucified in love, raised in power, and reigns as King.

Follow Christ by walking with Him in intimacy. He makes us fishers of men, devoted to seeking and saving the lost.

Declare the Gospel until everyone hears that Jesus was crucified in love, raised in power, and reigns as King.

Guide people to salvation by discipling them with the Gospel and baptizing them into the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We move all generations

Compelled by Christ’s love and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we faithfully proclaim God’s Word and pass on the faith from one generation to the next.

Teach every generation to obey all that Christ commanded and to faithfully live a Jesus-First life.

Disciple every generation to care for one another, so that no one cultivates an evil, sinful, or unbelieving heart. We spur one another toward love and good deeds.

Inspire every generation to do good and glorify God as we seek His voice, proclaim His Gospel, and move all generations beyond belief to conviction.

What is church membership?

Committing yourself to the body of Christ

In a day when commitment is a rare commodity, it should come as no surprise that church membership is a low priority to many Christians.

Sadly, it is not uncommon for Christians to move from church to church, never submitting themselves to the care of elders or evangelists and never committing themselves to a group of fellow brothers and sisters.

To neglect—or to refuse—to join a church as a formal member, however, reflects a misunderstanding of the Christians responsibility to the body of Christ. It also cuts one off from the many blessings and opportunities that flow from this commitment. Every Christian must understand what church membership is and why it matters.

When an individual is saved, they become a member of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). Because they are united to Christ and the other members of His body in this way, they are therefore qualified to become a member of a local expression of that body—what we call a “church.”

Because Jesus Christ is our first and greatest treasure, every member is first and foremost a disciple of King Jesus in the following biblical ways:
  • We love and treasure Jesus with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
  • We submit every area of our lives to His lordship.
  • We proclaim the Gospel of Christ until everyone hears, believes, and obeys the Gospel.
Because Jesus is our greatest treasure, every member of the CSCC is ultimately saved by God’s grace through faith. We follow Christ into baptism, where we are united with Him, washed clean, raised to new life, and brought under the saving reign of our King.
We believe:
  • We respond to the Gospel by faith as we repent, confess Jesus as Lord, and are baptized into Christ, where we are united with His death, burial, and resurrection.
  • Baptism is not a work by which we earn salvation. It is a faith-filled response to God’s grace and our faith in the saving work of Jesus Christ.
  • Grace, faith, and baptism are the divine work of God through the Gospel and cannot be separated. (Ephesians 2:1-9)
We reject:
  • We reject the teaching that a person can be saved through the sinner’s prayer, by faith alone (understood as belief without an obedient response), or baptism treated as a human work, a religious ritual, or an act separate from faith in the grace and righteousness of God.
  • We also reject the teaching that a person may knowingly refuse baptism into Christ and still claim the biblical promise attached to entering into Christ. (Romans 6:1-7)
Every member commits to:
  • Actively participating in a family group.
  • Building meaningful, Christ-centered relationships.
  • Loving, encouraging, forgiving, strengthening, and caring for one another.
  • Bearing one another’s burdens and celebrating one another’s victories.
  • Living out the sacrificial love of 1 John 3:16–18.
  • Gathering faithfully and consistently for Sunday and midweek gatherings, family groups, and important moments in the life of the CSCC.

We disciple one another in love as He loved us. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 defines how we as brothers and sisters must love and treat one another.

We pick up the broom and serve as Jesus, our King, did when He came not to be served but to serve. (Matthew 20:24-28, Philippians 2:5-7)
Every member commits to:
  • Serving with humility, joy, and love.
  • Looking for needs instead of waiting to be asked.
  • Using our gifts, time, abilities, and energy to strengthen the body of Christ.
  • Willingly participating in serving opportunities and ministry rotations.
  • Embracing every task with a servant’s heart, knowing that no act of service is beneath us when it honors Jesus and blesses His people.
Every member commits to:
  • We give faithfully, consistently, generously, and sacrificially.
  • We support the work of the Gospel.
  • We care for the needs of Christ’s Church.
  • We invest in Kingdom mission.
  • We refuse to allow money to become the treasure of our hearts. (2 Corinthians 8:1-5)
With Jesus as our greatest treasure, we are empowered to live, speak, and act according to His Word.
  • We seek His voice, letting the Word cultivate our church culture.
  • We declare His Gospel, operating as ambassadors for Christ, compelled by His love.
  • We move all generations, empowered by the Holy Spirit to pass on the faith, moving beyond belief to conviction.
